Ask Your Auckland Wedding DJ these Questions Before You Hire Them
Unlock your dream wedding DJ with this list!
As an experienced wedding DJ in Auckland, I might be biased, but I believe music is critical to the big day
experience. From your walk down the aisle to that emotional last dance, music will likely play a crucial part in every moment of your wedding. Which is why it’s so critical to find wedding entertainment that complements your celebration.
During the wedding planning process, I understand just how time-consuming the task of hiring wedding
vendors is. Not to mention the challenge of actually making a final decision. Trying to decide whether you have all the information necessary, when you’re up against the clock, is not easy!
With that in mind, I thought we’d use our 20+ years of experience as a wedding DJ in Auckland, and share the essential questions you should ask any prospective entertainment team. A master list of questions that’ll gift you the knowledge you need before signing on the dotted line.
Essential Questions to Ask an Auckland Wedding DJ Before You Hire Them
I’ll run through the basic information you should ask any prospective wedding DJ first, before getting a little more in-depth.
Are you available for my wedding date?
This has to be the first question you ask any wedding vendor in Auckland, whether it’s a DJ, a florist or a
celebrant . It’s a crushing blow to fall in love with a particular vendor, and get really excited about what they do, only to discover they’re not available on your wedding date. Avoid the heartache and check availability straight off the bat.
How long have you been a wedding DJ?
There’s no right or wrong answer to this question, but you should be able to gauge their experience level basedon their response. An experienced wedding DJ will make you feel comfortable. They’ll give you the assurance that the music and organisation on the day will be taken care of. Leaving you free to enjoy the celebrations. Throughout my 20+ years as a wedding DJ in Auckland, my aim has forever been to not only get guests on the dance floor, but also help the marrying couple relax. No mean feat, but it’s what you should expect when hiring experienced wedding vendors such as myself.
Have you been the wedding DJ at our Auckland venuebefore?
Hiring a wedding vendor that’s worked at your venue previously is a plus as they’ll already know the setup, the team and how to avoid any potential pitfalls. Your venue may also be able to provide some valuable feedback on their work. While it’s a bonus if they have, it’s not a deal-breaker as a professional wedding DJ will do their research and contact the venue ahead of time with any questions to ensure they are prepared for when they turn up for your event.
What makes you special?
Auckland is blessed with a deep pool of great wedding DJ talent and plenty of entertainment options too. Each with their own strengths and special qualities. Discovering what sets your potential DJ apart from the rest will really help you decide whether they’re a good fit for your big day. For me, I believe my professionalism and ability to perfectly soundtrack every moment of a celebration is my unique selling point. Alongside my pride in ensuring every wedding runs as smoothly as possible.
Do you just DJ the wedding reception?
The wedding reception is when a DJ typically gets to really show off their skills, and help guests celebrate your big day. But there is more to a wedding than just a dance floor. For example, you may want a professional to take care of your ceremony music. A DJ to curate a playlist for pre-reception cocktails? Perhaps an MC to liaise with your entire wedding team and ensure everyone’s in the right place at the right time? If you’d like more than just a reception DJ, be clear with your intentions from the start to avoid wasting time. Do you take requests?
If you know your guests will want to hear particular songs on the big night, then you should find a DJ who’ll accommodate those requests. Unless that’s really not the vibe or type of DJ you desire. Have a good think about what you want ahead of time and ensure the Auckland wedding DJ you hire can deliver. In my experience, requests are best submitted before the big day as that helps me better curate a cohesive set for your guests and ensure I have what you and your guests would like to hear on the day. To make the process as quick and easy as possible, I always send out a song request form online. It’s the ideal way for couples to share the music they love with me, alongside those tracks they really don’t want to hear!
How much will your wedding DJ services cost?
I understand that weddings are expensive, and that the cost of a potential wedding DJ may well be the deciding factor in hiring them or not. Which is why my quotes are tailored to suit the needs and desires of my couples. Plus, I’m always crystal clear about what is included. Because it is important you know there won’t be any nasty surprises popping up on your invoice. To get an idea of how much it would be to hire me as your Auckland wedding DJ, simply get in touch , and I’ll put a no-obligation quote together for you.
Do you have your own equipment & can you provide lighting/special effects?
It takes time and investment for a wedding DJ to build up a decent level of kit, and feel confident enough to expand into special effects and lighting. But if your dream wedding needs to have the best possible sound, and you would like a few extra effects to help highlight special moments, then you’ll need to hire a vendor who can wow with their top-of-the-line equipment . Be that a fog machine, up-lighting, confetti cannons or an illuminated dance floor.
I hope these essential questions will help you hire the perfect DJ for your Auckland wedding. It would be a pleasure to discuss your entertainment plans, and create those magical big day moments you’ve been dreaming of.
